Immersive Encounters

Stornaway.io Roundtable on Interactive filmmaking

In this session, hosted by Creative Director and co-founder of Stornaway.io Kate Dimbleby, we will talk to some filmmakers whose interactive films are being showcased as part of Immersive Encounters.

We will talk about why the filmmakers chose to add interactivity to their very different projects, the process of production and post production and how it differs from linear storytelling.

With special guests Director Paul Raschid and Dr Roy Hanney, we ask how learning these skills might be useful to future filmmakers in entering the industry and get some advice about how to gain the experience and skills they need.

Hosted by Kate Dimbleby - Creative Director, Stornaway.io

Special Guests:
Paul Raschid

Paul Raschid (28 years) is currently one of the world's most prolific interactive filmmakers. The interactive thriller 'The Complex', directed by Paul was released in April 2020. This was followed by interactive rom-com 'Five Dates' in November which Paul wrote and directed wholly in lockdown. 'Five Dates' was filmed entirely over Zoom. 'The Gallery', an interactive heist movie set in two timelines (1981 and 2021) is the first instalment of his interactive series titled INTERACTIVISIONS.

Dr Roy Hanney

Roy has extensive experience of leading academic teams having joined higher education from the film and television industry in 1999. Curriculum development has been a key area of activity in particular the use of live projects to bridge the divide between higher education and the world of work.

He recently worked with his digital media students in lockdown to create 7 interactive films using Stornaway.io. One of them, 3AM is also featuring at Immersive Encounters 2021. More recently Roy has turned towards creative talent development and community engagement as an important strand in his work. He enjoys film and television criticism and takes an interest in the philosophies underpinning experiential storytelling.

ABOUT STORNAWAY.IO

Stornaway.io is the universal editing platform for interactive filmmaking.

You can sign up for free at www.stornaway.io

We launched in summer 2020, working with film and TV production companies, theatres and film schools developing interactive content for web and TV VOD platforms. We now have thousands of users all over the world - from big budget films and games destined for consoles and interactive cinema, to businesses using it for personalised training or marketing - as well as schools and universities for interactive film and game courses.

Before Stornaway.io, making interactive films has been incredibly hard and expensive for creative teams.  Charlie Brooker, the writer and producer of Bandersnatch said it ‘was like doing a Rubix Cube inside your brain’

Stornaway.io was designed to fix this - a simple to use web software designed specifically for non-technical creatives and to complement traditional production workflows.
