Children’s Jury Award

Winner: The Girl Behind the Mirror / Directed by Iuri Moreno


South West Award

Winner: Sweet Little Despair / Directed by Carolina Petro

South West Jury Citation

The South West Jury was made up of Claire Horrocks, Olly Treasure-Smith and Neil Ramjee. They wrote of their decision :

“The panel felt this film delivered authentic and honest storytelling told through an unjudgmental lens. It was moving, personal and utterly relatable.  All aspects of production were outstanding, and the panel agreed it was a film which proves sometimes the simplest of stories carry the most power to reach us.”


Immersive Encounters Grand Prix

Winner: Cycle of Violence / Directed by Felicia Bergstrom

Immersive Jury Citation

Our 2022 Immersive Jury consisted of Paola Orlić, Matt Lloyd and Ben Thompson. The Jury’s decision read as follows :

“For the best VR project the jury recognizes an experience that both provokes and unsettles in a whirlwind of raw emotion, trapping it’s viewer on all sides.”


Animated Encounters Grand Prix

Winner: Love, Dad / Directed by Diana Cam Van Nguyen

International Jury Citation

Our Animated Encounters Grand Prix goes to a film that uses innovative animation techniques to explore family dynamics from a different point of view: being honest and understanding about the fractured relationships between parent and child.”


Brief Encounters Grand Prix

Winner: Urban Solutions / Directed by Arne Hector, Luciana Mazeto, Vinicius Lopes & Minze Tummescheit

International Jury Citation

Our International Jury, consisting of Inari Sirola, Nora Molitor, Dan Guthrie and Meltse Van Coillie, said of their decision :

Our Brief Encounters Grand Prix goes to a film which interrogates the past in the present, and the clash between classical portraiture and contemporary class structures. “


British Award

Winner: The Bayview / Directed by Daniel Cook

International Jury Citation

Our British Award goes to a heartwarming documentary that spotlights a disparate community brought together through circumstance but bound tightly by humour, support and kindness.”


UK Student Competition

Winner: Suburb // Directed by Miles Jezuita

UK Student Jury Citation

The UK Student Jury, consisting of Siavash Minoukadeh and Laurence Boyce, gave the following explanation for their decision :

“The award goes to a film which takes us on a journey into the dead of night, a time in which the world seems to change yet also contains an isolated familiarity. With a distinct visual style alongside a jazzy soundtrack that makes the perfect accompaniment, the UK Student Award goes to the animation Suburb.”


Audience Award UK

Winner: BabyThump / Directed by Ian Killick


Audience Award International

Winner: Monsieur Le Butch / Directed by Jude Dry
